Madame Tussauds New York unveils a never-before-noticed Pope Francis figure with a tour about New York City in a 'Pope Mobile' to celebrate the Pope's inaugural U.S. stop by on September 24, 2015 in New York City.(Photo: Getty)
When Kim Davis exercised her faith in Kentucky several weeks ago, The Arizona Republic, its editors and its columnists went apoplectic, bellowing that religious belief (and the dictates of God) had no spot in a lawful society, ruled by the Supreme Court.
For weeks your editors, E.J. Montini and Laurie Roberts scolded and browbeat this lady in print. Some days I nearly anticipated my paper to burst into flames, the righteous hatred for her burned so hot!
But now Pope Francis is in the United States, and now The Republic is singing a unique tune. You’re criticizing Gov. Doug Ducey for “abandoning” his Catholic upbringing by not putting the state in debt and showering gifts on the poor. How could a fantastic Catholic boy be so mean, you ask, especially now that he’s going to be within 200 yards of the pope!
If The Republic desires to be the conscience of Arizona, a excellent spot to start would be with some rock-strong positions – and then stick to them!
